Director/Senior Director, Synthetic Chemistry

The Director/Senior Director, Synthetic Chemistry be responsible for the Chemistry group in directing the design and synthesis of novel lipid nanoparticle components and will contribute to overall strategic scientific planning.  She/he will work closely with the Senior Director, Technology Development and the Chief Scientific Officer.

 

Responsibilities will include oversight and supervision of the synthetic chemistry group as a key part of Acuitas’ internal research program.  The primary focus of the chemistry group is the design and synthesis of novel lipid compounds for improved potency and safety of lipid nanoparticle delivery systems. This synthetic program builds on a strong  structure activity relationship understanding and hypothesis driven approaches.   Specific functions will include direction of efforts and approaches to novel classes of compounds addressing the internal research program requirements, as well as coordination and support for associated intellectual property filings.  He/she will participate in a number of cross-functional teams

 

The successful candidate will have a PhD or equivalent degree and more than five years industry experience in a biotechnology/pharmaceutical environment. The successful candidate will be a strategic thinker and problem-solver and have excellent verbal and written communication skills.  Familiarity with lipid chemistries for nucleic acid delivery systems and/or experience with chemistry specific aspects of intellectual property would be an asset.  She/he will excel in a fast-paced, growing environment and will enjoy working as part of a team. She/he will exhibit strong leadership skills and be an excellent mentor. She/he will share the company’s values of honesty, integrity, innovation and openness. Compensation will be commensurate with the successful candidate’s experience and qualifications.
